NBC Studio Tour Going High-Tech
NBC’s longest-lived show-its studio tour at New York’s Rockefeller Center, run since the station’s founding in 1926--is being rocketed into the high-tech age. Starting Tuesday, it becomes the “NBC Experience,” spread out over two floors and 20,000 square feet of interactive exhibits.
Besides getting a behind-the-scenes network view, visitors can videotape themselves being “interviewed” by Jay Leno on the “Tonight Show” (he’s taped, they’re live); watch network shows being taped via video monitors; and sit in the ultimate HDTV theater, with a 130-degree, 34-foot-wide wraparound screen.
The tour runs daily, every 15 minutes, and costs $16 (up from $10 for the old tour); no one under age 6 is admitted. It costs $15 more to take home a tape of yourself. You can wander through the exhibits (except for the HDTV theater) for free; they’re open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Tour information: telephone (212) 664-7174. Exhibit information: tel. (212) 664-3700.
