SAN LUIS OBISPO — A man jailed on a parole violation is being investigated in connection with the disappearance of two college students, police said Thursday.
Rex Allen Krebs is a “prime suspect,” said Capt. Bart Topham.
Details of what led police to Krebs or of his earlier case were not released. As of Thursday evening, he had not been arrested or charged in the missing students case.
Investigators were searching the Davis Canyon area Thursday for possible clues, Topham said.
Three San Luis Obispo college students have disappeared in the last three years. Krebs is a suspect in the Aundria Lynn Crawford and Rachel Newhouse cases.
Crawford, 20, a Cuesta College student, was last seen March 9 and was reported missing by her mother three days later. Authorities have said someone had forced his way into her home.
Newhouse, a 20-year-old Irvine native who attended Cal Poly, was last seen leaving a party Nov. 12.
Also missing is Kristen Smart, 19, of Stockton, who disappeared May 25, 1996.
