PALMDALE — Two people were killed and three others were injured Wednesday when a car ran a stop sign and set off a chain-reaction accident, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The driver suspected of triggering the crash, an alleged gang member known as “Maniac,” ran from the scene and was being sought by deputies late Wednesday, said Sgt. Mike Griffin of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
The accident occurred about 3:15 p.m. at 30th Street East and Avenue R-6, Griffin said.
Griffin said the hit-and-run driver smashed a Nissan 280Z into the back of a Honda, which was knocked into the path of an oncoming Mustang.
Two people in the Honda were killed, but authorities did not immediately release their names and ages as the families had not yet been notified.
