CAMARILLO — Authorities early Wednesday apprehended the California Youth Authority inmate who escaped last week, was found and then mistakenly released from Ventura County Jail.
Larry Sanchez Jr., 18, was found at his parents’ house in Tustin about 12:45 a.m. and taken into custody, said Cassandra Stansberry, assistant superintendent of the authority’s youth prison in Camarillo.
Sanchez, who is serving time for a burglary in Orange County that involved the use of a firearm, walked away from a 17-member work crew that was cutting brush on Foothill Road in Ojai more than a week ago. Three days later, he was picked up in Santa Ana during a traffic stop and brought back to Camarillo.
On Monday, CYA authorities accidentally released Sanchez from the Ventura County Jail because of what they called “a miscommunication.” Police found Sanchez back in Orange County less than 24 hours after the accident was discovered Tuesday.
Sanchez is set to be arraigned today on felony escape charges. If convicted, he could serve an extra year at Ventura School.
