LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE — A 68-year-old man was found dead in his home the morning after police arrested a man outside a Nevada casino driving his car, authorities said.
Martin Higgins, 59, was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of James Cummings, said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Sgt. Vince Collier. It was not made clear how Cummings had died.
On Wednesday night, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a report from the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin that a “very drunk” man was trying to drive away.
Officers who questioned Higgins at the scene ran a records check that showed he was wanted for credit card fraud in San Luis Obispo, authorities said. They also found that the car he was driving was registered to Cummings and called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to determine if it was stolen.
Deputies went to the registered owner’s home in the 5200 block of La Canada Boulevard Thursday morning and found Cummings’s body inside.
