“Not Just Another Walk in the Park,” the fifth annual concert to raise money for a skate park, will be held Saturday at Libbey Bowl.
The show, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, Nordhoff High School Leadership Class and Busters Barbecue and Bakery, will feature the bands Punishment, Rubberband, Drudge, Blue Latitude, One Track Mind, Same Difference, D.O.S. and Buck Wild. Many band members are local high school students. The concert will run from noon to 6:15 p.m.
“Not Just Another Walk in the Park” was created in 1995 by former parks and recreation youth commissioner Emily Welch. To date, the concerts have raised about $6,000. The city and Ojai Unified School District have agreed to provide a temporary skate area at the park and ride lot next to Chaparral School on Ojai Avenue. The skate area will be designed by Mike Taylor.
Concert funds will go toward additions to the site, such as a drinking fountain or benches, said Carol Belser, director of recreation. Tickets for the show are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. There will be a $2 discount at the door for students with identification.
Tickets are available at Salzers Records, 5777 Valentine Road, in Ventura; the recreation department, 510 Park Road, and the Nordhoff High School student store.
