Abbott Laboratories said its profit rose 13% in the first quarter to $667 million, or 43 cents a share, a penny higher than the average estimate of analysts, as higher sales of medical equipment helped offset a decline in sales of some drugs. Abbott, which makes pharmaceuticals, hospital products, the nutritional drink Ensure and baby formula Similac, said sales rose 8.3% to $3.3 billion.
