Times’ Ventura Photographers Win 5 Awards

Photographers from the Ventura County edition of The Times have won five awards in the Press Photographers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles’ 62nd annual awards.
Spencer Weiner won first place in the features category for an image of a boy in a pool therapy class, and third place in the photo essay category for a series on a boot camp for juvenile offenders.
Steve Osman received a second place award in news for an image of a man being squirted with pepper spray by police officers.
Carlos Chavez won a second place award in the fire category for a photograph of a brush fire. And Anne Cusack was awarded second place in music and arts for her photographs of a man playing a saxophone in a parking garage.
Times photographers from Ventura County, Orange County, the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles won 19 of 27 awards in the competition, open to all accredited news photographers in the region.
The winners were honored at a banquet in Los Angeles on March 27.
