Police were searching for a man who left his daughter with a stranger in North Hills early Monday while he went looking for cocaine.
The father left the child with a man he had just met in line at a mini-mart in the 9100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard about 1:20 a.m.
“The father asked a male if he would watch the 10-month-old girl while the father scored some dope,” said Sgt. Dan Mastro of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Station. “When the father didn’t return after 30 minutes he called the police.”
The baby was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she was found to be in good health, and placed in protective custody with the Department of Children and Family Services.
Police were unable to identify the infant or the father. The child was described as Latina, wearing a pink dress. The father is about 5 feet 4 inches, 200 pounds and 25 years old.
