UCI Dominates No. 2 Stanford in Water Polo

UC Irvine scored six consecutive goals to start the game and defeated second-ranked Stanford, 8-2, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s water polo game Saturday at Heritage Park in Irvine.
Ryan Bailey, the conference’s leading scorer, scored three goals and freshman Jeff Powers scored two for the Anteaters (5-4, 1-0 in conference), ranked sixth in the nation. Goalie Genai Kerr had 16 saves for Irvine.
Arturo Rodelo and Brian Heifferon, a Servite graduate, scored goals for Stanford (8-2, 2-1).
In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s soccer:
Fresno Pacific 3, Southern California College 2--Edgardo Contreras scored on a penalty kick in the 74th minute for Fresno Pacific (8-3, 3-1). Diego Goni scored both goals for SCC (6-8, 1-3).
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Portland 2, UC Irvine 1--Tyler Theslof scored in the 13th minute to give UC Irvine (5-5-0) the early lead, but Garrett Marcum and Brian Winters scored second-half goals for visiting Portland (6-3-1).
In nonconference women’s soccer:
Concordia 6, Fontbonne (Mo.) 0--Yolanda Lozano and Hanni Prahl each had a goal and an assist for host Concordia (2-8-1) and goalkeeper Crystal Rodriguez didn’t have to make a save in the first shutout in the program’s two-year history. Fontbonne is 3-10-2.
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, UC Irvine 0--Misty May had 10 kills, 33 assists and 14 digs for host Long Beach State (16-0, 6-0), the top-ranked team in the nation, which won, 15-2, 15-7, 15-4. Irvine is 5-14, 2-4.
