Oakland Is OK

Good to see recognition of alternatives to San Francisco airport (Travel Insider, Sept. 13). Earning award mileage on United, and noting a good fare to the Bay Area, I found the lowest rate was to Oakland. Thus booked, I made my way to the United Shuttle gates at LAX, and found two planes to SFO both off schedule. But all was clear for my Oakland-bound flight to board, leave on time and arrive on time.
At the Oakland terminal I caught a frequently running shuttle bus to the BART station, and a train to downtown San Francisco. The return was just as smooth.
