Red Tape Keeps El Camino Real in Dark
Attention Mayor Richard Riordan, Councilwoman Laura Chick and school board member Julie Korenstein: El Camino Real High desperately needs your help.
For more than three months, the school has been seeking release of $185,000 in Proposition K funds approved for lights at El Camino Real’s football stadium. The bureaucratic obstacles and endless pages of paperwork, however, continue to delay release of the money.
This is a wonderful opportunity to show young people government can work in a timely manner. As soon as the funds are released, it would take three days to deliver the lights and five to six days for installation.
El Camino Real boosters have done everything they can to clear the way for the lights. Now, if only someone in city government and with the Los Angeles Unified School District would step forward to help cut through the red tape.
The school wants to have a night home football game this season. The money has been approved. There must be someone who can provide leadership to get this problem solved.
