Granada Hills 32, Birmingham 6--Jason Winn completed 16 of 22 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Highlanders (4-0, 1-0) to an easy victory over the Patriots (1-3, 0-1) at Granada Hills.
Gerald Jones was the key for Granada Hills on both sides of the ball. Jones caught four passes for 61 yards and scored on a 21-yard pass play from Winn. Jones also recovered a fumble in the first quarter and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown.
Winn also connected with Peter Gunny and Josh Brandon for touchdowns covering seven and 38 yards.
The Patriots’ only scores were by kick John Wall, who boomed field goals of 50 and 53 yards. He also hit the crossbar from 52 yards out.
The game was delayed 20 minutes during the third quarter when Birmingham running back Orlando Nettles was injured. Nettles was tackled, stood up after the play, then collapsed while holding his chest. He was taken to Granada Hills Hospital.
Birmingham quarterback Max Parra completed 12 of 15 passes for 94 yards.
