Recruits Have Look of Winners

The Henry Bibby method of recruiting is relatively simple: Look for players from winning teams.
“You have to have kids who know how to win, who have been winning their whole lives,” the USC coach said.
Several newcomers on the Trojans fit that bill. Freshmen Brandon Granville and David Bluthenthal won a state championship at Westchester High last season. Freshman Sam Clancy led St. Edward of Lakewood, Ohio, to a title.
And junior college transfers Quincy Wilder and Brian Scalabrine come from a championship program at Highline Community College in Des Moines, Wash.
Successful players make for more efficient coaches, Bibby said.
“You can’t teach everything,” he said. “So you look for student-athletes that bring certain things to the table that you don’t have to teach.
“It makes your job a little easier.”
