Littlerock’s Gorny Makes Commitment to Brigham Young

Chris Gorny, an outside hitter for the Littlerock High boys’ volleyball team, has committed to Brigham Young.
Gorny, 6 feet 6 inches and a Times’ All-Valley selection, chose the Cougars over New York University, UC Santa Barbara, Stanford, USC and Long Beach State.
“It just felt right,” Gorny said. “There was just something about it that made me say, ‘This is the place to go.’ ”
SOCCER
Glendale College, ranked No. 1 in the state, was awarded a first-round bye in the Southern California Regional men’s playoffs, which begin today.
The Vaqueros (19-1-1), Western State Conference champion, are seeded first and play at home Tuesday against the San Diego (9-6-1) and Fullerton (12-5-4) winner.
Moorpark (11-7-1) is seeded 10th in the opposite bracket and will play a first-round game at Harbor (13-4-3) tonight at 7.
SOFTBALL
Nichole Victoria, who was selected 1996 Ventura County coach of the year by The Times after guiding Camarillo to a share of the Marmonte League title, has been named head coach at Hueneme, according to Principal Roger Rice. Victoria was an assistant last season at Oregon State.
BASKETBALL
Crescenta Valley High’s boys’ team will stage its 15th annual alumni game at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 25 in the Crescenta Valley gym.
The game will pit the Falcons against several Crescenta Valley graduates who went on to college careers, including Brad Holland, University of San Diego men’s coach; Harvey Mason, who played at Arizona, and Adam Jacobsen, who played at Pacific.
All three boys’ basketball coaches in school history--Jim Smiley, John Goffredo and Ed Goorjian--will be on hand.
