Lord Hunt; Led First Successful Expedition to Mt. Everest

Britain’s Lord Hunt, 88, who led the first successful expedition to Mt. Everest in 1953. Hunt, a British army officer, directed the team that climbed the world’s highest mountain on the eve of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. The two members of that team who actually stepped on the summit were Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Hunt was knighted after the expedition and made a life peer in the House of Lords in 1966. On Saturday night at his home in Henley, Oxfordshire, members of his family said.
