Family Charged in Abuse of 2 Women
Police accused a Syracuse family that had housed a mentally disabled woman and her daughters since 1988 of holding two of the women captive for their disability checks, beating them and leaving them chained to a bed’s box spring for days without food. The mother, Melinda Vinson, was missing. Police say John Dennee, 47, and his family put the woman and her disabled daughter on a bus to Florida. Beverly Vinson, 24, was found Friday at the Syracuse bus station and taken to a hospital for examination. Officers arrested Dennee, his 44-year-old wife, Kathleen, and their daughter, Janet, 26.
