A 27-year-old Ventura man suffered internal and head injuries Sunday morning after his car slammed into an electrical power pole and rolled, Oxnard police said.
Kenneth Aaron Ross was in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Ventura County Medical Center late Sunday, a nursing supervisor said.
Police were uncertain what caused Ross to lose control of his vehicle and crash into the pole, shearing it in two, but are investigating whether alcohol was a factor, Cmdr. Mike Matlock said.
After the 2:55 a.m. crash at Rice and Latigo avenues, Ross was trapped inside his car. It took police and medical personnel 30 minutes to extricate him. The northbound lanes on Rice Avenue, from Latigo to Gonzales Road, were closed until about 9 a.m. while crews cleared the wreckage, Matlock said.
Because the power pole carried Southern California Edison transmission lines that didn’t feed power directly to customers, there were no reported power outages as a result of the accident, according to Glen Becerra, an area Edison manager.
