Bible Competition

Re “Like Joshua, to Battle,” April 25.

If ever there was a kind soul who loved to teach, it would have to be Cantor Avrum Schwartz. As a child at Congregation Beth Kodesh (CBK, later Shomrei Torah Synagogue), he taught me to love Hebrew and Bible study. He was also my coach for the Los Angeles Bible Contest in the mid-1970s. Back then, CBK fielded the only team competing in Hebrew in the city. Congratulations and mazal tov to Cantor Schwartz on another great year.
