Clippers Left Flailing Again

From Associated Press

Clipper forward LaMond Murray took two swings, but the Seattle SuperSonics delivered the knockout punch.

Dale Ellis matched his season high with 23 points and the SuperSonics became the NBA’s first 50-game winner this season with a 99-80 victory Wednesday night.

The SuperSonics, earning a sweep of the four-game season series, outscored the Clippers, 26-11, in the fourth quarter en route to their fifth consecutive victory.

Eric Piatkowski had 17 points for the Clippers, who have also lost in their last eight games in Seattle. The Clippers lost 26 of the last 29 games of the series.

“The Sonics played good defense in the fourth quarter and we missed some key shots,” Clipper Coach Bill Fitch said. “We were just trying to keep it close, where we could win it in the fourth quarter.”

Murray and SuperSonic forward Jerome Kersey were ejected with 1:59 left in the third quarter after exchanging punches.

“I think it [the altercation] de-energized us because it took Lamond out,” Fitch said. “He’ll get a phone call [Thursday] and probably get a one-game vacation.”
