San Diego University 58, Fresno Washington Union 54--Ron McMillan’s back-door layup with 37 seconds left in overtime broke a 54-54 tie in the Division III regional final and sent the Dons (24-5) to their first berth in the state championship.
Luke Walton’s driving basket with 10 seconds left in regulation tied it, 54-54, and forced overtime.
University was making its fourth trip to the regional final in five seasons. The Dons lost in 1994, ’96 and ’97. Washington Union is 26-4.
