Vote Due on Library at Saddleback High

Hoping to benefit the city while making more books available for schools, the board of Santa Ana Unified School District will vote tonight on a proposal to build a public library at Saddleback High School.
If the plan is approved, the board will give the city permission to construct a 20,000-square-foot library on a school parking lot. The city proposed building on a school site so it would not have to buy property for a library.
School district officials suggested Saddleback High School because it has the space and because there is a need for a library in the neighborhood.
Opening a library on a high school campus also would benefit students because they would have access to more books and study space, officials said.
The board meets at 7 p.m. at district headquarters, 1601 E. Chestnut Ave. Information: (714) 558-5501.
