New AIDS Cases

In our Feb. 18 letter we stated, “In Los Angeles, one-third of the new AIDS cases are among black women (CDC data, October 1997).”
We meant to make clear that black women make up more than one-third (38.4% in 1996) of the new AIDS cases among women, not one-third of the total cases. Black women made up 3.7% and black men approximately 15.6% of all new AIDS cases reported in 1996 in Los Angeles.
