FAVORITE MOVIE: HELLO, DOLLY?

It seems that when a French reporter asked Belgium’s Eric Deflandre a seemingly innocuous question, Deflandre’s flippant reply was taken seriously.

“I was asked which things do you take with you for a one-month trip,” Deflandre said. “And I said, ‘My soccer boots to play soccer and an inflatable doll because a month without a woman would be difficult.’

“It was really meant as a joke,” he quickly added, and fortunately, when the story appeared in Belgian newspapers, that’s the way it was taken, even by Deflandre’s girlfriend.

“She laughed, even my family laughed,” he said. “It’s just the reporter who didn’t laugh.”
