A gunman who robbed a Thousand Oaks gas station early Tuesday sprayed the cashier’s face with a chemical before fleeing the scene, police said.
The robbery was similar to a holdup at a Camarillo gas station the day before, authorities said.
“These robberies have similarities,” said Thousand Oaks Police Sgt. Steven M. Bourke. “Both were early morning, at gas stations and a chemical was used.”
Tuesday, the masked man entered the Conejo Arco at 600 N. Moorpark Road about 7:30 a.m. and demanded cash after pointing a handgun at employee Nisar Atayee, police said.
After Atayee handed over an undisclosed amount of money, the man sprayed the cashier with an unknown chemical, police said.
Atayee, who was temporarily blinded, was treated and released at Los Robles Regional Medical Center.
In Camarillo on Monday, a man with a gun robbed the Mobil gas station at Daily Drive and Las Posas Road about 5 a.m.
The suspect allegedly put pepper spray in the clerk’s face before fleeing, police said. The clerk did not require medical treatment.
The suspect is described as a Latino in his 20s, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, with dark hair and eyes, unshaven, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
