Former Basketball Coach Van Horn Dies at 65

Ezra Van Horn, who coached men’s basketball at Fullerton and Cypress colleges and at Western and Los Alamitos high schools, died Monday in Bozeman, Mont., of leukemia. He was 65.
Van Horn, who coached at Fullerton from 1972-81, had a 140-58 record and won conference titles in 1977 and 1981. Van Horn started the boys’ basketball program at Los Alamitos High, posting a 78-28 record and winning two championships. He was named Orange County Coach of the Year in 1969. He retired from coaching in 1982.
Van Horn is survived by his wife, Rita, their four children, Ellen, Stuart, Sally and Eileen, and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned Aug. 29 at Fullerton College.
