Housing Authority Honored for Efforts

Four housing and community-development efforts in Oxnard have been honored by the National Assn. of Housing Redevelopment Officials.
Oxnard’s Housing Authority received four regional awards from a committee of housing officials from California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii for:
* The architectural design of its 64-unit Casa San Juan low-income housing complex.
* The creation of a La Colonia youth center dubbed “Safe Haven.”
* Computer-repair classes held at the center for youths living in public housing.
* The Tezcatlipoca cultural awareness program that involved a trip to Mexico City by public housing youths.
The association will present the housing authority with a national award in October in San Antonio for the Casa San Juan apartment complex built in 1996.
