OXNARD — A young man died Tuesday night at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after being stabbed in a fight in south Oxnard, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released, was stabbed in the chest about 8:30 p.m. during a fight among several men outside an apartment complex at 5422 Roland Way, Oxnard Police Cmdr. Jeff Young said.
Young estimated the victim was in his late teens or early 20s. City fire officials said he was stabbed once in the left side of his upper chest.
After the man was stabbed, three friends or relatives started to drive the victim to the Oxnard hospital before being pulled over by police for driving erratically near Lindsay Place and Rose Avenue, Young said.
Firefighters were immediately dispatched to where the car was pulled over, and paramedics administered CPR before taking the victim to the hospital, Young said.
The man died upon arrival at the hospital, fire officials said.
The fight outside the apartment complex was being investigated and may have been gang-related, Young said. There had been no arrests in the case Tuesday night.
