Officials Announce Final Candidates for Fire Chief

The job of city fire chief will be filled by one of three finalists from Phoenix, Monrovia and within the Fire Department’s own ranks, officials said.
Acting City Manager Cynthia Kurtz will conduct final interviews with Phoenix Deputy Fire Chief Harry Beck, Monrovia Fire Chief Ernest Mitchell and Pasadena Deputy Fire Chief Joe Milligan this week. A selection is expected by Sept. 1. Kurtz selected the trio from a field of seven finalists last week.
Mitchell has been head of the 40-member Monrovia Fire Department for six years, while Milligan is a 26-year veteran of the Pasadena department that has 175 employees.
Beck is a 25-year veteran of the Phoenix department, which dwarfs both Pasadena and Monrovia with some 1,400 personnel, city officials said.
