With classes set to begin Aug. 17, summer is about to end for San Fernando Valley community college students who attend Mission, Pierce or Valley colleges.
“Registration has gone up and down all summer long,” said Carmelita Thomas, vice president of academic affairs at Pierce College in Woodland Hills. “Now, at the last minute, we’re seeing a large number of students enrolling.”
Enrollment fees for the fall are $12 per unit for California residents--down from the previous $13 a unit--with an $11 health fee.
The charge for out-of-state residents is $140 a unit, while the fee for international students is set at $145 a unit. A full load of classes is usually about 12 units a semester.
Continuing and new students with appointments can now register by telephone at the three area colleges.
At Valley College in Valley Glen, telephone registration ends Thursday and in-person registration runs from Monday until Friday.
At Mission College in Sylmar, telephone registration ends Aug. 15, with in-person registration set for Monday until Aug. 28.
Telephone registration at Pierce ends Thursday and in-person registration is ongoing until Aug. 28.
