Police responding Wednesday to a call about a partially burned car behind a building found a dead woman in the trunk, officials said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which investigates homicides in the city, has taken over the case, Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Sciacca said.
Sciacca said the woman was not burned.
“Homicide detectives believe there is a strong possibility that the partially clothed victim was sexually assaulted,” said sheriff’s Lt. Ray Peavy. “The victim is 47 years old and is believed to be Vietnamese.”
The woman’s name was withheld pending confirmation of her identity by coroner’s investigators.
