Tax for Sidewalk Repair

The Los Angeles City Council wishes to put a new tax burden on us without our approval, a tax to repair our sidewalks (“Council OKs Ballot Measure on Tax to Repair Sidewalks,” June 30). I, for one, say No! No! No!
If my sidewalk needs repair I will have it repaired myself. It will be done correctly and expeditiously. I will pay for the repair only once, not for the rest of my lifetime and my children’s lifetime. Once our City Council places a tax on the citizens, it is never taken off. Look at the sewer tax. We were told it was for one year. Now the council still wants the tax money, not for what it was intended but for pet projects that will assist them in being reelected, not for the good of all.
