OAKLAND — Tom Candiotti got his second win since May and Matt Stairs homered for the second game in a row as the Oakland Athletics beat the exhausted Cleveland Indians, 12-2, Friday night.
Candiotti (6-13), who had lost three consecutive starts and nine of his previous 10 decisions, gave up two runs on five hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings while striking out a season-high seven.
The Indians, who had a three-game winning streak ended, got to their hotel rooms about 5 a.m. Friday after playing a 17-inning game at Seattle that lasted well past midnight.
Stairs led off the second with his 17th homer of the season, a shot into a section of drum-beating Indians fans in the right-field stands.
The A’s, who won their second in a row after a nine-game losing streak, added four runs in the fourth on an RBI double by Scott Spiezio, a two-run broken-bat single by Mike Blowers and a bases-loaded walk to Ben Grieve.
