FIRST QUARTER: LAKERS 19, TRAIL BLAZERS 23

Highlight Reel: After falling behind, 7-0, in the first 1:13, Laker forward Rick Fox brought the ball up on a break, lobbed the ball high in the air to the right of the rim and Shaquille O’Neal soared in for the one-hand jam.

What You Won’t Find in the Box Score: Trail Blazer center Arvydas Sabonis avoided the foul trouble that plagued him the first two games and played the entire quarter--a first for this series.

Winning Number: Sabonis made his presence felt by scoring seven points.

Wrong Number: After shooting 52 free throws in Game 2, the Lakers earned only one trip to the line during the quarter.

Highlight Reel: Walt Williams, he of the retro-knee-high socks, dribbles toward the free throw line from the left wing and makes an 18-foot jumper while falling down.

What You Won’t Find in the Box Score: Eddie Jones missed all four of his shots in the first half.

Winning Number: O’Neal scored 12 points.

Wrong Number: O’Neal finished the half with 22 points but the rest of the Lakers had only 28.

THIRD QUARTER: LAKERS 72, TRAIL BLAZERS 69

Highlight Reel: Jones starts a personal 6-0 run by soaring in from the left side along the baseline, taking a pass from Robert Horry and jamming the ball for a 60-58 lead.

What You Won’t Find in the Box Score: The rabbit-punch slap Kelvin Cato delivered to the back of Eldon Campbell’s head after Campbell fed Kobe Bryant for a slam dunk.

Winning Number: Fox picks up the Shaq-slaq and scores eight points.

Wrong Number: O’Neal, perhaps resting up for the final push, scores one point.

FOURTH QUARTER: LAKERS 94, TRAIL BLAZERS 99

Highlight Reel: Isaiah Rider drives by Horry and Fox to the baseline, jumps into the air behind the backboard, avoids O’Neal and banks the ball in on a reverse for a 94-89 lead.

What You Won’t Find in the Box Score: Damon Stoudamire drives past Nick Van Exel into the lane, avoids a beheading, makes the shot and adds the subsequent free throw to put the Trail Blazers ahead to stay, 77-75.

Winning Number: Stoudamire scored seven of the Trail Blazers’ points during a 14-3 run to begin the quarter.

Wrong Number: The Lakers missed seven free throws in the quarter--16 in the game and 46 for the series.
