Pierce 11, Bakersfield 1--Danny Phillips hit his 10th and 11th home runs and Barry Matthews (5-4) struck out 14 and walked one in a six-hitter to lead Pierce (21-14, 14-9) in a WSC Southern Division game at Pierce.

Moorpark 18, Oxnard 6--Brian Fatur had four singles to lead a 20-hit attack for Moorpark (10-20, 7-11) in a WSC Northern Division upset over Oxnard (22-8, 13-4) at Moorpark.

Chapman 3, Cal Lutheran 1--Jeff Blitstein (11-3) pitched a four-hitter for the victorious Panthers (25-10) in a nonconference game at Chapman. Cal Lutheran fell to 24-9.

SOFTBALL

Canyons 12-6, Santa Monica 1-0-- Stacy Champy (13-10) pitched a one-hitter in the first game and a two-hitter in the nightcap for Canyons (15-12, 11-4). The first game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. The Cougars clinched second place.
