Ex-Mayor Requests Recount of Ballots

Former Mayor Jeff Jennings has asked the city clerk’s office to recount votes cast in the City Council election, in which he narrowly lost his seat to Tom Hasse.
A final ballot count April 17 confirmed that Jennings, the target of a last-minute videocassette mailer labeling him pro-development, lost his seat to Hasse by 29 votes.
Deputy City Clerk Nancy Steiner said her office will assemble a precinct board of four people to tally the votes by hand, a process that should take about a day to complete. The recount, which will be paid for by Jennings, will commence within a week, she added.
Jennings could not be reached for comment.
