New Parking Meters to Accept ‘Key’ Cards Instead of Coins

There’s a new way to feed parking meters in Pasadena.
Across the city, 115 meters now accept “parking keys,” which motorists can use in lieu of coins. Keys can be purchased from Pasadena’s Parking Department with values ranging from $4 to $80.
Each time they are inserted in properly equipped meters, the motorist gets 25 cents worth of parking time--and 25 cents are deducted from the key.
The keys are designed for professionals who regularly use meters in Pasadena’s business districts.
“We’re trying to establish a parking-friendly program,” said Jennifer Jenkins, the city’s parking manager.
