My Favorite Weekend

Ernie Hudson’s newest film, “Butter,” airs Friday on HBO.
An Early Start: Because I travel so much for work, when I am home I need quality time with my wife, Linda. For that, we start our weekends Friday when the kids are still at school. We walk on the beach in Malibu and have lunch somewhere on the water.
A Strict Regimen: Usually I get up early (whether I want to or not) to walk our puppy, Bazooka. Afterward, I work out, alternating between pilates and Nordic Track machines in my home gym. Then I alternate between the steam room and the sauna as a reward.
Mountain High: Saturday mornings, we pack up the car and head to the mountains. We have 11 acres on a hillside near Lake Arrowhead, which makes for great toboggan runs in the winter and great hiking during the summer.
Game Time: Saturday nights, we like to play board games. Our house has three fireplaces and no immediate neighbors, so it’s very cozy.
For the Birds: Sundays, we take our kids [Andrew, 10, and Ross, 9] to the village for breakfast at Woody’s Boathouse or the Belgian Waffle Works. Then we all sit by the lake and feed the ducks.
Going One on One: If we are in the city for the weekend, my wife and I like to split the kids up for a day. We’ll each take one of the boys to Barnes & Noble, Venice Boardwalk or wherever they want to go. That way we can deal one on one and really pay attention to both of them.
