Israel’s 50th Birthday Being Celebrated Here

The Orange County Jewish community this month will begin marking Israel’s 50th birthday with celebrations of food, culture, the arts, spirituality and history.
Events will include a “Walk for Israel,” a film festival, memorials for fallen soldiers and discussions about Israel’s statehood, court system and religious history.
On Sunday, thousands are expected to gather at UC Irvine’s Aldrich Park for the Jewish National Fund Golden Jubilee Parade/Walk for Israel, featuring floats, marching bands, carnival rides and a raffle.
Admission is $5 for members of the Jewish Community Center, $7 for nonmembers, and $4 for children under 12. The event is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This year’s showcase event is the Jewish Federation Yom Ha’atzmaut Birthday Bash Extravaganza at 6 p.m. April 30 in the Hyatt-Newporter. The evening features dinner, dancing and entertainer Wayne Foster. Tickets are $75 per person.
