Birkinshaw’s Eagle on No. 5 Highlights Valencia Victory

Brian Birkinshaw eagled the fifth hole on his way to a one-under 34 as Valencia defeated Western, 194-205, in an Orange League golf match Thursday at Dad Miller.
Birkinshaw eagled the 300-yard, par four after driving the green, then sinking a six-foot putt.
In Century League softball:
Villa Park 11, Orange 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Kristina McCarty went three for three with a double and a triple and Julie Carrillo added two hits for Villa Park (9-8-1, 1-1). Orange is 8-8, 0-2.
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 10, Katella 0 (5, mercy)--Samantha Kimura homered and Melissa Hobson struck out five and gave up no hits for visiting El Dorado (9-6, 1-1).
In the Freeway League:
No. 7 La Habra 6, Sunny Hills 3--Jenny Topping had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two, and Christina Carrillo had two hits, three stolen bases and two RBIs for La Habra (10-2-1, 2-0).
Buena Park 2, Troy 0--Junior Tammy Darrow drove in both runs to lead Buena Park (8-7, 2-0). Sophomore Stefani Beltran gave up only two hits. Troy is 12-5, 1-1.
Sonora 10, Fullerton 0--Carrie Routledge (3-0) gave up four hits, striking out seven and walking one to lead Sonora (11-9, 1-1). Jennifer Link was four for five, with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base for the Raiders. Crystal Keedy was two for three, with two stolen bases for Fullerton (6-14, 0-2).
In nonleague games:
Costa Mesa 7-0, Edison 0-4--Heather Christiansen followed Julie Collett’s second-inning triple with an RBI single, and Costa Mesa added a five-run fifth inning in the first game and cruised behind Kristin Chisolm’s four-hitter. In the second game, Edison’s Kelly Birk pitched a five-hitter and Trisha Grady had an RBI triple in a four-run first inning for Edison (7-7). Costa Mesa is 3-11.
In Empire League boys’ tennis:
Cypress 21, Kennedy 0--Nikhil Daga swept his singles matches, 6-0, 6-1, then teamed with Zeno Lee for a 6-1 doubles win for host Cypress (6-0, 13-3). Kennedy is 2-4, 3-8.
In Century League boys’ track and field:
El Modena 70, Canyon 57--Jordan Czaykowski won the 110 hurdles (16.1) and the triple jump (40-3) for El Modena (3-1, 2-1).
Villa Park 85, Orange 42--Shelton Davis won the 400 (52.7), high jump (6-0) and long jump (18-9) for Villa Park (4-0, 2-0). Orange is 0-3, 0-3.
In the Empire League:
No. 10 Katella 77, Loara 58--Katella’s Richard Grindley won the pole vault with a season-best mark of 14-1, and teammates Thang Troung and Matt Ragland finished tied for second at 13-1.
In the Orange League:
Savanna 83, Western 49--Abdi Hersi led Savanna (4-2, 2-2) with wins in the 880 (2:14.0) and high jump (5-6).
In Century League girls’ track and field:
No. 9 El Modena 109, Canyon 21--Jamie Lenahan won the 300 hurdles (49.0) and Samantha Meredith took the discus (114-5) for El Modena (5-0, 3-0).
In the Empire League:
Katella 109, Loara 27--Kim Lopez finished first in the 100 hurdles (16.5) and 300 hurdles (52.7) for Katella (3-0 in league).
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 89, La Habra 48--Triple winner Heather Garritson had victories in the 880 (2:34.0), mile (5:33.0) and two mile (12:44.0) for Buena Park. La Habra is 0-7, 0-3.
In the Orange League:
Savanna 87, Western 40--Quiana Starr long jumped 17-10 to lead Savanna (4-2, 2-1). She also won the 100 (11.5) and 220 (27.1).
