Champy Is Near Perfect in Canyons’ 6-0 Victory

Stacy Champy pitched a no-hitter and Canyons defeated Glendale, 6-0, in a Western State Conference South Division softball game Thursday at Canyons.
Champy (9-10) struck out 13 batters and walked one.
Traci Rocha hit a two-run double for Canyons (11-11, 7-3 in conference play.
In other softball games:
Pierce 13, Santa Monica 3--Jenaye Brown hit a grand slam for the Brahmas in a WSC game at Santa Monica.
Amber Gutierrez went five for five, including a home run for Pierce (14-9, 8-3).
Bakersfield 8, Valley 1--Karla Martinez had four hits for the Monarchs (14-7, 7-4), who lost a WSC game at Valley.
BASEBALL
Ventura 14, Cuesta 13--Manny Mosqueda scored on a throwing error to cap a seven-run sixth that gave the Pirates (11-16, 4-12) a WSC victory at Cuesta.
Aaron Davidson and Nate Janowicz hit grand slams for Cuesta (21-4, 10-4).
Oxnard 5, Moorpark 3--Dane Saiki hit a two-run double for the Condors (21-7, 12-3) in a WSC victory at Oxnard.
UC San Diego 11, Cal Lutheran 5--Donny Churchman had two hits and two RBIs but the Kingsmen (18-6) fell at UC San Diego.
The Master’s 8, Biola 7--Eric Fuller drove in two runs with three hits, including a double for Master’s (28-7) in a nonconference game at Biola (28-12).
The Mustangs led, 6-2, after two innings and Matt Berry (7-2) hung on for the victory.
Berry allowed five earned runs on 11 hits while striking out four and walking eight.
