Canyons’ Victory a Dunn Deal

Ryan Dunn’s run-scoring single off the glove of Cuesta College pitcher Nate Taylor with two out in the 10th inning gave Canyons an 8-7 Western State Conference baseball victory Wednesday at Canyons.
Sergio Franco’s two-run home run tied the game, 7-7, in the ninth inning for Canyons.
Dunn had a two-run home run in the third inning to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Wayne Mahaffey (4-0) retired all seven batters he faced and halted a two-run eighth-inning rally by picking off a runner at first base with two out and runners on the corners.
Valley 9, Moorpark 2--Alberto Flores (2-4) allowed two earned runs on eight hits in eight innings for the Monarchs (10-18, 6-10) in a Western State Conference victory at Valley.
Lucas Latuf had two hits and a run batted in for Valley.
The Master’s 16, Claremont 1--Danny Cato and Rob Avila each had three hits for the Mustangs (27-7) at Claremont.
Avila and Preston Sprinkle hit home runs for The Master’s (22-7).
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 13-12, Occidental 2-3--Donna Scott hit a home run in both games for the Regals in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep at Occidental.
Scott had three hits, including a two-run home run, and four RBIs in the first game.
In the second game, Scott had two hits, including another two-run homer, and three RBIs.
Mandi Comer added two hits and five RBIs in the second game with a grand slam to cap a five-run fourth inning to give Cal Lutheran (18-16, 9-1) a 9-1 lead.
MEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 6, UC Irvine 1--The Waves (21-5), who are ranked 10th in the nation, lost only at No. 3 singles at Pepperdine.
