Members of Moorpark High School’s Academic Decathlon team--who placed second in March’s state competition--will be getting handshakes and commendations from state legislators Friday.
State Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) and Assemblyman Nao Takasugi (R-Oxnard) will meet with the team this week, and the students also were invited to visit with Gov. Pete Wilson in early May, said coach Larry Jones.
The Moorpark team scored the second-highest number of points in the state Academic Decathlon--48,585 out of a possible 60,000--the highest ever for a Ventura County school.
Moorpark lost to Woodland Hills’ El Camino Real High School, which has won the competition for the last three years.
