The Veterans Advisory Council is starting construction today on a monument dedicated to eight Orange County Congressional Medal of Honor holders.
Seven of the Medal of Honor recipients were recognized for their service during World War II. The eighth was awarded the Medal of Honor for service during the Korean War.
The eight concrete and bronze statues, which will be placed in a semicircle outside the Hall of Administration in Santa Ana, will carry the names of the veterans and describe the acts for which they received the military’s highest honor.
The monument will be complete by late May and will be unveiled during the Memorial Day holiday.
The ceremony to kick off the construction will be at 10 a.m. today at the Hall of Administration, 10 Civic Center Plaza.
