Zierhut Leads Newport Harbor to Victory

Matt Zierhut had 13 kills to help Newport Harbor to a three-game victory over Santa Margarita in Sea View League boys’ volleyball Friday night at Newport Harbor.
Top-ranked Newport Harbor (6-0, 2-0) struggled a little but won, 15-10, 15-11, 15-12. Santa Margarita is 5-2, 1-1.

Prep volleyball--The school affiliation of Matt Zierhut was incorrectly identified in a story in the April 4 Times Orange County edition. Zierhut plays for Santa Margarita.

El Toro 3, Woodbridge 1--Jason Donovan had 14 kills for El Toro, which won, 12-15, 15-3, 17-15, 15-8. El Toro is 7-1, 2-0.
In the Empire League:
Century 3, Western 1--Sean Graham had seven kills and Julio Bugarin had six kills and 10 blocks for Century, which won, 15-3, 3-15, 15-12, 15-4.
El Dorado 3, Loara 0--Matt Peacock had 18 kills to lead El Dorado to a 15-6, 15-8, 15-9 victory. Loara is 5-5, 3-3. El Dorado is 9-1, 6-0.
Valencia 3, Kennedy 1--Danny Ortega had 16 kills for Valencia (10-2, 5-1), which won, 15-8, 13-15, 15-7, 15-8. Rupesh Bhakta had 14 kills for Kennedy (6-4, 2-4).
In the Golden West League:
Westminster 3, Santa Ana 2--Jared Barnes had 37 kills and 30 digs for Westminster, which won 16-18, 15-9, 15-13, 15-17, 15-8.
Santa Ana falls to 8-2, 1-2.
In the Pacific Coast League:
University 3, Laguna Hills 0--David Chen had six kills for University (4-4, 1-1), which won, 15-11, 15-4, 15-5.
In the South Coast League:
No. 9 Dana Hills 3, Capistrano Valley 1--Peter Butler had 15 kills as Dana Hills (6-2, 2-0) won, 7-15, 15-11, 15-13, 15-10. Capistrano Valley is 3-3, 0-2.
In the Sunset League:
No. 8 Esperanza 3, Edison 1--Justin Sudduth led Esperanza (5-3, 1-1) with 22 kills. Esperanza won, 15-7, 15-13, 14-16, 15-8.
Los Alamitos 3, No. 7 Fountain Valley 0--Matt Komer had 28 kills and Nathan Lee had 16, as Los Alamitos upset its second top-10 team this week, winning, 15-13, 15-1, 17-15.
