Convicted Governor Seeks Old Job Back

Former Gov. Guy Hunt entered the governor’s race five years after being forced from office for an ethics conviction. “I’ve been through the fire and shown I have the tenacity to do what needs to be done for the people of the state,” Hunt said at GOP headquarters in Birmingham on the final day to qualify. Among Hunt’s Republican primary opponents is incumbent Gov. Forrest “Fob” James Jr. Hunt, a 64-year-old farmer and preacher, made history in 1987 when he became Alabama’s first GOP governor this century.
