Officer Was Illegally Stopped, Judge Rules
- Share via
A black Miami-Dade police major on trial for battering sheriff’s deputies and resisting arrest during a traffic stop won a major victory in Orlando when a judge ruled he was unlawfully stopped. Aaron Campbell had claimed he was stopped because, as a black man from South Florida, he fit a racial profile deputies use to stop motorists and search them. Orange County Circuit Judge Thomas Mihok also threw out two of the six charges. Campbell had been charged with two counts each of battery, resisting arrest without violence and resisting arrest with violence.
