Faculty at Saddleback, Irvine Valley OK Pact

Instructors at Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College ratified a new contract Tuesday.
The faculty voted 104 to 86 to approve the contract, which was hammered out over several months. The breakdown was about 55% to 45%.
The faculty contract is with the South Orange County Community College District, which administers the two campuses serving about 33,000 students.
Administrators planned a news conference this afternoon to discuss particulars of the contract.
Bargaining was prolonged by the colleges’ fiscal problems, which have placed the district under a financial watch by state community college officials.
The final version of the contract reportedly contains no first-year raise for the full-time faculty members but includes increases for subsequent years.
