Separatist Standoff Suspect Arrested

State police said the FBI arrested Republic of Texas fugitive Richard Keyes, who disappeared in May after six fellow separatists surrendered after a weeklong standoff. The man arrested was picked up walking along a road in New Waverly, about 55 miles north of Houston, state police said. He was taken by Texas Rangers to a Houston courthouse for arraignment. Keyes bolted from the separatist group’s Fort Davis hide-out on May 3, the day Richard McLaren and five followers surrendered to Texas troopers. Keyes, 22, formerly of Kansas, is wanted on charges stemming from the hostage-taking of a neighborhood couple that began on April 27.
