Remark Slights Adoptive Families

In response to your feature article on the Kelly quadruplets (conceived through in vitro fertilization), I can admire the patience and energy it must take to care for four infants simultaneously. I felt sad, however, for Mr. Kelly and his belief that “it’s built into a man that you want a child of your own,” and that he voted against “bringing home someone else’s baby” (his definition of adoption, apparently).

I’d like to remind Mr. Kelly that we are all God’s children. Adoption is not raising someone else’s baby. I believe it is just another path that God created to benefit and enrich the lives of adopted children and adoptive parents, as well as the birth mother and birth father.

Pregnancy does not equal parenting, as I’m sure the Kellys have learned over the past year. I wish them much love and joy with their children, and I hope that through them they can truly see God’s hand in the making of a family.
